Pakistan's Networks

With comparatively a small land to cover and five companies vying for the crown: Mobilink, Telenor, Warid, Zong and Ufone; Pakistan’s telecommunications system is perhaps the most advanced in the world

Chances are you won’t face a “No Signal” notification if you live here. In Pakistan, it’s the customer who wins since each network tries to win over the nation by introducing packages and deals at lower and lower prices.

Read more, after the break.

The zone where each network somehow comes up with better and better deals is the SMS. It’s a dog-eat-dog competition. The three absoulute best SMS packages are (as of writing):

*rant on*

The network that absolutely sucks in terms of SMS packages is Warid. One of their deals is ZOOM Unlimted which offers 25 SMS @Rs3/day! Seriously, are you kidding me? Blasphemy! Telenor by default offers 20paisa/SMS. That’s still cheaper than Warid’s package. What’s shameful is that they sell their Unlimited SMS package for Rs. 150 while Ufone sells their version of the package with the same features at Rs. 80: half the price. What’s even more shameful is the fact that I use the ZOOM package myself because I have no other option.

And Jazz? They really don’t have any package to write home to.

*rant off*

Looking at SMS rates in America and the UK where each SMS costs around 8Rs. in Pakistani money, we are quite lucky texters and textees.

The only downside to all these cheap SMS rates are the bad jokes some of my friends send which range from “lame” to “pathetic”. But yes, those Sardarji ones never ever get old.
