Dawn Love Part I

The Sun

Dawn n. The first light of day.

28th June ‘09

Just another day in the life of Awais. The usual? Of course: wake up, wash up, salaaam jinaaab!, naashta and it is time to hog the internet.

Only this time, when I hogged the internet, a friend of mine named Najam informed me about the Federal Board’s result announcement announcement. The result would be out tomorrow! Holy cow! “Wasn’t it supposed to be next say next week? How can FBISE announce the result announcement so soon?” were just some of the many thoughts that were racing through my head.

In any case, whether I liked it or not, the result was tomorrow.

Birds, guards and result-day tension: after the jump.

29th June ‘09

Post-midnight.

After watching some episode of How I Met Your Mother, I turned off the computer. Time to go to sleep. Nana’s alarm rings off at 0345 so it was a must anyway. But just as the springs in the matress began supporting my butt, the many different possible outcomes of the result slapped and thrashed against the back of my head:

Kya hoga?

Will I live up to the score I made last year?

What if I fail in Urdu? NAWZOBILLAH!

What about Maths? I made a mistake in one of the MCQs…

But then again, how will I fare in Pak Studies? That long-butted question did me wrong.

Rinse and repeat.

0430hrs: Fake zzzZZzzzzZZZZZzzzzs. Will mama and baba be happy with my result?

0530hrs: Eyes closed. Dimagh still wide open. What will the teachers have to say if I screw up?

O_O

O_O

0600hrs: Alright jinaab. That’s it! About time I woke up. There is point in sleeping right now anyway. So I get out of the bed. Search for Nana. FAIL. Then decide to take a walk around our street and take in whatever atmosphere dawn-time has to offer.

It was an absolutely invigorating experience. I witnessed quite a few things I hadn’t done so before. Like, for example, listening to birds chirp away in almost an orchestra-like manner. Or having a cup of chaa with a couple of guards. And then there was the fact that it rained a little? Oh and the fragrance! OHO. Wah wah WAH!

Never in my 16-year old life have I witnessed nature that give pleasure to all senses, be it touch, sight, hearing, taste or smell.

Smooth to the touch, soothing to the sight, melodious to my ears, sugary to my tastes ’cause that guard’s tea had solid sugar crystals and the fragrance, as I mentioned, was “Wah wah WAH!”

I was still tensed about the result though. 9 hours left.

The guards with whom I had that chaa with.. were as sweet as the tea they gave me. One was rather old and the other quite young. We discussed nature, monkeys, Kharian and a sad storu about how one of their relatives was involved in a horrible burn incident.

What happened next can be summed up in a few photos… which will be seen in Part II.

NOTE: Writing everything down would be a pure abomination for you to read and for me to write in one go, Dawn Love is split into two parts. The first is as you can see above and the second coming soon material. Kaheen jayyega mat!
